Gone Tommorrow by Lee Child

Susan Mark blows her head off on a subway in New york. This is very unusual suicide case due to the manner, place and method of the suicide. Jack Reacher witnessed the suicide. Reacher realises that there is more than meets the eye. He sets out  investigate the matter but he finds himself entangled in a web of lies and deceit. His own life is even in danger and he needs to survive and at the same time unravel the truth.

Lee Child shows in "Gone Tommorrow" that he is a master storyteller. The plot is excellent, full of suspense and very educative. It seems that Lee Child does not only entertain  but educate on a wide range of topics including counter espionage, military tactics etc.

Child is straight to the point  and succeeds in entertaining the reader throughout the novel. The personality and character of Reacher is quite novel. Unlike other investigators  he is not supported by the system. He is practically operating outside the system. Reacher is ex military  but he is neither CIA nor FBI. He has not been recruited by the government to do what he does. He proves resourceful   and climbs many hurdles in his quest to get to the truth.

The Queenslander

"The Queenslander" is a novel by Robert Macklin, an Austraslian novelist.  It tells the story of Pal Lingard. Pal Lingard was like any other teenager when he suddenly  fell for  Mrs Hendry who as the name suggests was not a girl but a woman. He has an affair with her. He later  found  out that he was sharing her affection with his own father. He could never forgive his father for breakng his matrimonial vows and  and betraying his mother by being Mrs Hendry's lover.

Three years after the incident when he was a little bit old enough he left home  and became a jackeroo. The harsh and difficult life of a jackeroo did not  take him away from his books.  He continues  to read. He experiences his ups and downs. Pal  finally succeeds as a writer.

The beginning of the novel is interesting the middle part a bit boring  but  it is compensated by the latter part of the novel which is emotional, touching and interesting. It was written in 1975 which is 39 years ago but the themes, issues and events in presented by Macklin  are relevant today.  The reader can identify with them.  The story is touching. "The Queenslander" is certainly worth reading.

“The Sleeping Doll” by Jeffery Deaver

Daniel Pell aka “son of Manson” was a convicted murderer. He was convicted for the murder of William Croyton and most of his family member s (wife and two children). Theresa Croyton escaped death because she was asleep hidden by her toys and therefore nicknamed the sleeping doll.

Dell was no ordinary criminal. He was very intelligent, widely read and believed to possess the flair for controlling people. Like a puppeteer he enjoys controlling people and being in control. From prison he orchestrated a daring break and finally escaped prison.

Though a step ahead of the police and the formidable police woman named Kathryn Dance, he knows that he has to remain a step ahead of her. He definitely has to stop her or else he will be killed or apprehended. He leaves a trail of murder and victims in his quest to remain out of jail and accomplish his quest mission of reaching his mountaintop.

Fast paced thriller with expertly thought out characters who are very realistic exhibiting flaws and strengths. “The Sleeping Doll” is one of the finest thrillers by one of the finest thriller authors of our time, Jeffery Deaver. Totally “unputdownwable” and beautifully plotted. The suspense is unending with unbelievable twist and turns until you reach the end.
