The Miss universe title is one of the most coveted titles
ever. It has long history dating back
1952 when Armi Kuusela from Finland won the title. The pageant is an assemblage
of some of the most beautiful and from diverse cultural ethnic backgrounds. It
is a tall order deciding who deserves the crown and the judges are not to be
envied in this respect. This is because
a great number of the ladies really deserve the crown at any contest. This year
(2011) contest was won by Leila Lopes from Angola wins after gruelling
contest. The very first for an African since
Mpule Kwelagobe won the title in 1999.
The 2011 pageant was held in the beautiful city of Sao
Paulo. It featured 89 contestants from 89 countries. The number was cut down to 16 beautiful ladies
who were allowed to proceed to the next stage of the competition. They were contestants
from Australia, Angola, Brazil, Colombia, China, Costa Rica, France, Kosovo,
Netherlands, Puerto Rico, Philippines, Portugal, Panama, Ukraine Venezuela and
the USA. At this round of the competition, the contestants wore bikinis and the
judges cut down the number further down to 10 most elegant and beautiful ladies.
Among these 10 gorgeous ladies selected
to wear the evening gown. Luo Zilin of
China was named the 4th
runner- up, Shamcey Supsup of Philipines 3rd runner-up, Priscila
Machado from Brazil 2nd runner up, Olesya Stefanko of Ukraine 1st
runner-up and Leila Lopes of Angola was crowned as the winner. She was crowned
by Ximena Navarrete of Brazil who was
Miss Universe 2010.
